“My offer to bet him a million dollars on this nonsense stands.”
Our reading, the sentence that was checked:
AI will not be able to do anything any human can do within the next one to two years, and Marcus would bet a million dollars on it.

Our interpretation
- Marcus's implied forecast: by two years after Musk's 2024-10-29 remark, no AI will be able to do anything any human can do.
- Deadline: the latest reasonable end of 'within the next year or two' is two years after the post, 2026-10-30.
- The bet offer itself is not checkable. Only the implied forecast is graded.
- Early resolution rule: the forecast is contradicted early if, before the deadline, credible evaluations show an AI system able to do essentially any task a human can do, including physical and long-horizon work. It can be supported only once the deadline passes.
Counts as supported if: At 2026-10-30, AI systems still cannot do many tasks humans can do, as shown by public capability evaluations.
Counts as contradicted if: By 2026-10-30, credible evidence shows an AI system that can do anything any human can do.
Prospective: these criteria were frozen before the deadline, while the outcome was not yet public.
Current assessment
Did the forecast come true?
Outcome: Unresolved
The record was checked, and the evidence available by the cutoff does not settle it.

Rationale
Fortune reported (e1) that on 29 October 2024 Musk predicted AI would be able to do anything a human can do within the next year or two. Marcus's implied forecast is that this will not happen. Under the contract, the window ends on 30 October 2026, two days after the evaluation date. The contract allows early contradiction only if credible evidence shows an AI system matching humans on essentially all tasks. The packet has no such evidence. In July 2026 the Center for AI Safety reported (e2) that the best automation rate on the Remote Labor Index was 15.8%. It also said AIs still fell short of professional quality on most projects. That does not meet the early-contradiction rule. Under the contract, support can only be assessed after the deadline.
Limitations
- The deadline falls after the evaluation date.
- The Remote Labor Index covers remote digital work only, not physical tasks.
- The packet contains no evaluations from the last months before the deadline.

Context only: Fortune,
predicted that AI would be able to do anything that a human can do within the next year or two
Why it matters here: Confirms the Musk forecast that Marcus's bet offer is aimed at.

Context only: Center for AI Safety,
the best automation rate has risen from 2.5% to 15.8%. Today's AIs still fall short of professional quality on most projects
Why it matters here: As of July 2026, the best AI agent completed only 15.8% of real freelance projects at professional quality. That points toward Marcus being right, but the deadline has not yet passed.

What would settle it
An assessment after 2026-10-30 of broad capability evaluations, including remote-work benchmarks such as RLI and physical-task results, showing whether any AI system can do essentially anything a human can do.
