From the speaker
- The products aren't coming
- models that would at some point become useful
- something revolutionary
Our interpretation
- The ordinary contextual reading concerns substantial useful applications beyond those already available at publication.
- A qualifying application must be publicly available, sustain substantial adoption, and have documented practical use. A model announcement alone is insufficient.
- The claim does not require every new application to succeed or prove industry-wide profitability.
- No deadline is supplied.
Counts as supported if: Definitive abandonment of the relevant product-development effort occurs before substantial useful new applications emerge.
Counts as contradicted if: A new generative AI application becomes available after the post, sustains substantial adoption, and demonstrates practical value in actual use.
Retrospective: these criteria were written after the outcome was public.
Current assessment
Did the forecast come true?
Outcome: Contradicted
The dated evidence goes against what the claim committed to, under the criteria frozen before grading.
Scored on a plain reading. The speaker named no measure for this claim, so it was judged on the reading an informed reader would take, stated below under our interpretation. Both reviews had to find that reading fair.

Rationale
Under the ordinary reading that substantial useful applications would not emerge, Claude Code and its documented deployments provide a counterexample. It became publicly available after the post, showed continued adoption in February 2026, and had documented sustained production use at Rakuten by July 2026. This establishes useful products, not universal productivity gains or profitable infrastructure investment. The result depends on reading products as practically useful applications rather than requiring an unspecified economy-wide revolution.
Limitations
- The decisive adoption and customer evidence is vendor-published.
- Reported customer improvements are not controlled estimates of causal productivity gains.
- Independent research found slowdowns in a different coding setting.
- The speaker did not supply a numerical threshold for meaningful products.
Evidence (3 items)
Goes against the claim: Anthropic,
weekly active Claude Code users
Why it matters here: The disclosure dates general availability to May 2025 and reports continued growth in weekly users and business subscriptions in February 2026. Its reported commercial scale supplies evidence that adoption extended beyond an experimental launch.

Goes against the claim: Anthropic, reporting Rakuten's deployment,
10x faster
Why it matters here: The customer account describes production software work with Claude Code since March 2025 and subsequent deployment of agents across business functions. Together with e1, it establishes sustained use and reported practical value, although the speed comparison covers the broader agent deployment.

Context only: METR,
19% longer
Why it matters here: A randomized study found a slowdown for experienced developers working on familiar repositories, primarily using Cursor with early-2025 Claude models. It cautions against equating adoption or perceived benefit with universal productivity gains, but does not directly test the later deployments in e1 and e2.
